I used to think I wanted a CNC mill with a 4th axis, but I don't even consider that anymore since 3d printers have evolved so much and I don't work with metal very much. I could make good use of a laser cutter, though. LOL, good point, I didn't even think to suggest the third option of a straight p...

I would much prefer a CNC machine, although ideally I would have both. Even that particular CNC machine can do cutting in three dimensions, so that seals it for me. It's not like you could make anything huge, but assembling smaller pieces in to something large is what it's all about anyway. ;) In my...

First, it's p i n vice... And Drem e l while we're at it. ;) That will probably help if you want to search around for what others have done. Second, it just depends on what you're comfortable with. A pin vice is very precise and easy to control, but it does take more time. A Dremel is fast, but take...

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I'll give you a few pieces of info... At 1:72, one foot in real life equals 4.23mm in scale. That makes a six-foot man almost exactly one inch tall. If you wanted to build something that was 100 feet long in real life, it would be about 16.5 inches long at ...

Probably strength is what most will say. But there are other things, like the fact that you can clamp parts together and then wick the plastic cement into the joint. There are certainly water-thin superglues out there that can do the same, but you have to be REALLY careful because it gets everywhere...

I've had nothing but good service from China. Same here. I had a whole order not show up and they resent everything with nothing more than me saying I hadn't received it yet... Additionally, I kind of wonder if the stuff direct from China is made better because they don't have to please some U.S.-b...

Rustoleum takes days to dry usually. Best bet is to set it somewhere safe and forget about it for a bit. I found one of their colors that matched my car exactly so I used it for a few touch-up areas and it was a couple of days before it wasn't taking a fingerprint. And that was in the hot Summer. It...

If your ratio was just off, sometimes epoxy will cure eventually if you let it sit. But if you didn't mix it enough so that there are pockets of separate components then it will never harden. Some epoxies are more finicky than others, too. I remember using some that I think was made by Mig and if th...

When I dug out my casting RTV I realized I didn't have nearly enough, so I ended up doing an old (and cheap) trick using GE Silicone I (caulk). It's too thick for delicate parts, but it came out great with this simple shape: http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/9053/lemony.jpg The test casting with pl...

Post how it goes. I might try that myself. I agree, it's a pain when paint dries too quickly, especially if you have to get up to answer the phone or something.
I'm guessing they're using parchment paper rather than wax paper, but it's hard to tell. It'll be nice to know for sure if you try it.

Make a thin ring of plastic on the larger surface of the ring, the part it's resting on in your picture. Then add a wider ring on top of that. You're essentially creating a ring with a T-shaped cross section. How's that for unmolding? I think it would work if the ring was thin enough, because the w...

I'm trying to figure out an easy way to cast this... http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/420/ringwn.jpg http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1817/ring2kk.jpg Of course the first inclination is to create an open-face mold just as it sits, but the problem is that the bottom and its relation to the two sides ...

The issue I see, seems to be that the wheel and tire are one piece in some fashion. How will you separate the tire form the wheel to make your molds? It comes with separate wheels, so all you have to do is drill out the wheel part of the one-piece wheels/tires. There are certainly worse things to h...

The clay idea would work if I actually had any. Rogviler, wouldn't that make it brittle? No, plasticine clay just gets harder the colder it is. If you're worried about the part, just make an impression with it and freeze the clay by itself. Disregard since you don't have any, but it's another way t...
