Weathering with oils

I'm going to be weathering with oil washes for the first time and have a couple of questions, please.
Everyone says it takes a long time for the oil paint to dry. How long is long? Days?
And is it okay to use a clear lacquer over the oil washes?
Any advice is appreciated!

I always used my paint thinner to weather. I've used it on every SW ship I've done since I was a kid. The thinner is usually a dark color (since I'm always cleaning greys, black, and silver) and over time this goop forms at the bottom of the bottle. What the heck is a Dremel?

Okay, I guess I'm old school in that I use an Xacto, toothpicks, clothespins camel-hair brushes, and Testors glue/paints and not much else

So, what is this Dremel tool I read so much about here?
