This looks like a good spot to ask this. I will soon be building some hanger equipment and I want to backlight some diagnostic display screens. Basically I'm designing some graphics, printing on clear acetate (for overhead projectors) and I want to backlight it. LEDs in a box give me a hotspot. I as...

Thanks for the replies.

Apparently you can cast with a solvent and resin mixture (special type) and depending on the % of mix you can actually reduce the cast by specific amounts.

I"ll probably just hack and glue. I'll post if I figure something out. Thanks.

Shrinking via Casting

HI,
I recently bought a figure. It and my kits are 1:48 but the figure is too big. Different idea of what 1:48 is I guess.

I've read that you can shrink via casting. Lost the link.

Is there a way to do this? Right now I only have the Smooth On RTV and Resin.

Thanks.

DIY photo etch?

Hi,
Would anyone have a link(s) to a DIY photo etch system. I've seen the one at Micro Mark. Being in Canada I would need the export version and then find the chemicals here. Just wondering if there are any other solutions out there. Can't seem to Google much.
Thanks.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I believe all us - trying to do our best - modelers hit this wall, so I only thought it to be realistic to not edit out my state of mind. I'm determined to finish though, no questioning that. Hopefully others will know that they are not alone...I have a dream - Y...

Correct red gels for X-wing engines?

Hi I wanna light my Red 6 engines and I have some super bright LEDs but they're white. I seem to remember some folks using red gels and maybe tin foil inside the engines? Would regular 'DJ light' red gels work or is there a better solution? I searched all through the forum and can't find anything on...

How do I properly cast cylinders?

Hi,
I've scratched an intake can for the Red 6 I'm working on and I'd like to try to cast copies. Any tips on how to properly cast half of a cylinder?

Very appreciated, thanks

I just added a box on top with old plywood, put a $30 bathroom fan onthe back, cut a hole on top and added a flea market aquarium light and a hindged plexiglass door. It works great. Compressor fits under it too. I have no pictures of it. It's i...

Ah, i have lots of that kicking around. Yeah it's really sticky. I'll try it again soon. So you just shot a small amount on the styro. Did you have to 'move it' with a stick or something to get it to cover the styro. I assume you had the styro on a wire up in the air.

thanks, no i didn't have any styro spheres to use. I'm gonna pick some up. your photo is great, thanks, and the tips too! This method will be an asset to many modellers. It's relatively inexpensive too.

Did you use the regular expanding foam or the low expansion variety?

Bought some expanding foam and tried it out. Here are the best 2 from about 50 globs. Once they set up for about 5-10 minutes I poked them with a sharp stick. It bursts the outer crust that forms. You can easily over do this and end up with a pancake. or wait to long before the poke and just dimple ...

That explosioni is really awesome. I've read that the kaBooms in Believe are internally lit. Hence the nice glow. I'm gonna pick up a can of foam and try it out tonight. I'll post some pics.

Remove scratches in clear parts

Hi,
Building a Naboo Fighter and I got a scratch in the canopy. So I pulled out some 600 grit wet sand paper, soaked it and sanded the canopy only to totally scratch the entire thing. How can I correct this?
Thanks
Scott.
