I just tried sanding the blob I had mixed, my first ever test with Aves, and I gotta say this stuff is the...stuff! Sands easy, cures super hard, and I test scribed and it did not chip or flake. I can't wait to start using this in my builds asap. I must say that I am now a new convert to the church ...

Yeah, I may look into the option parts from SSM. I do want to start making small mods/additions to my Gunpla kits. Minor stuff like filling in the hollow sides of armor panels, sharper spikes, etc. However, I don't plan to doing anything crazy. A pet peeve of mine is when modelers slap on so many mo...

Basic modeling/scratchbuilding supplies?

Hey all, I'm trying to get a list together for when I go to the LHS next on basic materials/supplies for minor modding and scratchbuilding. So far I have: Aves Apoxie Sculpt, holiest of putties, Yea, O Ad(Minister)ers of Apoxie. Scribing/cutting tools Wet/Dry sandpaper Styrene sheets, (aka Pla Plate...

Well, today I finally used my airbrush for the first time. The result was successful, even though I only sprayed half a dozen parts. And I only sprayed one color. Sprayed 409/H2O solution, 91%IPA and plain water through til it ran clear, and I hope that will do for a basic clean. I'm gonna have to b...

A backflush is done by covering the nozzle and forcing the air back through the cup, correct? I guess I just have to be very careful not to damage the nozzle/needle. Does it make a difference if it's a top or bottom cup? I have an Iwata Revolution top-feed. Lastly, should the cup have thinner in it ...

Airbrush maintenance

Hey guys, I finally got my compressor (thanks TER-OR), and airbrush, and I am steeling myself for my first attempts at airbrushing. I have a few parts already primed with Tamiya Fine Surface primer out of the can, and I am getting all my ducks in a row to prepare. Watching the AB tutorial over at Fi...

Well, thanks for the info. The experiment I did last night with Mr White Putty didnt turn out too great. It marks with me fingernail, and it didnt seem to cure thoroughly. I was able to make a depression at the thickest point and it seemed it had not cured all the way through. I will try and pick so...

How easy is Aves to work with compared to say, Mr White Putty? I'm experimenting with Mr White right now and I gotta say its frustrating. It comes out of the tube at toothpaste consistency yet becomes stiff and kinda crumbly very fast. Also, it's very hard to remove from my tools/fingertips etc. I m...

Well, I did a small test, I immersed a small flat scrap ABS piece in Tamiya thinner. Let it sit for a few minutes then removed and dried it. It did SEEM to bend more easily. It's hardly conclusive, I'll try another test with 2 similar pieces next, and keep one dry as a control sample. I'll post if t...

Ah, my mistake on the acetone. In any case, I'll test it myself soon and post the results. I certainly hope that if Bandai is making the stuff too brittle, that they pick up on it soon and rectify it. I just feel bad for this guy who basically just deepsixed his 2.0 Zaku. I'd be severely distraught ...

Well, there might be some merit to this after all. I just recieved a new Bandai kit, and there is one runner that is marked ABS. This runner/sprue is mainly for the joints as far as I can tell. I guess Bandai is changing joint connections from polycaps to ABS plastic on some kits. I looked up ABS pl...

I know someone mentioned brushing Future on stright out of the bottle, but has anyone tried spraying it with those cheap commercial spray bottles. You know the type that Windex comes in.

That sound feasible? or will the spray not be fine/consistent enough?

Tamiya thinner causing parts to shatter?

Please forgive me if this is a breach of etiquette, but I thought the painters here might need to hear of this. A fellow over at another forum claims that Tamiya thinner caused his parts to become brittle and shatter when used as a thinning agent in a wash. The thread can be found here: http://www.m...

Man, I had no idea hlj even carried that thing. Very interesting. I'm actually thinking of making a box outta some plastic bins and sundry parts like a few I've seen on this board. I'm kinda on a budget, so a cheap DIY deal seems ideal at the moment.

Is that a spray booth?

At the 5:34 mark of this video, it shows what looks like a weird honeycomb wall, that she sprays into a bit later, the video doesnt show the whole thing.
Could it be a spraybooth? An interesting design if so.

Paint Mixing Tips?

Hey guys, I was just wondering what techniques you use to mix paint? The paint charts my models have show percentages: 80% Midnight Blue + 20% Neutral Gray, etc. I have a syringe with measuring marks on it, its not that easy to use. I also have some glass eyedroppers. Well, any suggestions? I just c...

Would a tank added to the harbor freight one help minimize pulsing? Or is it safer to go with the Iwata, even tankless?

I don't think i'll be doing much fine linework, but still, good to know.

How about something like this:

And then attach a tank/moisture trap?

Also looking at this:

as a higher-end alternative

Tanked vs. Tank-less

So I have been researching online for my first compressor for my first airbrush. Most of the hobby-specific ones, like the Iwata Sprintjet come tankless. Should I buy one of these and attach a separate tank? Find one with a tank? What are the pros/cons to a tanked/tankless setup? Anyway. thanks in a...

Using Tamiya Acrylics with a Brush?

So I am starting work on a new kit that only needs a bit of paint, minor detail work really.
