Anyone know of any software that allows you to create and test simple circuits on a virtual breadboard?

It wouldn't have to simulate microcontrollers - just LED's, resistors, 555 timers, 4017 chips and the like.

Looking to start playing with microcontrollers as a more versitile way of lighting my models.

What would you suggest in way of learning kits, websites, books I should be looking at.

Just a random thought between swigs of beer..

How about painting the deflector a reletively dark color and then lightening the paint on each progressively smaller circle?

I bet a 16th of an inch between circle edges wouldnt be noticable from farther than 2 feet away...
