Re: removing electrolplate from parts

I used brake fluid. Let it soak for several days and then brush the loose chrome with a toothbrush. Even so it took me several soakings and brushings and working with a toothpick to remove all of it.

Good point. We don't know the long term effects of Solvaset on airbrush seals. I wouldn't take much to gum one up.

Re: Applying Walthers Solv-a-set with an airbrush?

With an air brush all you are doing is mixing air with the solution. There shouldn't be any chemical changes or dying out like occurs with some paints. What I sometimes do is apply the decal with lots of water on it and then apply a drop of Solvaset to the water. I then make sure the decal is in pla...

Re: Applying Walthers Solv-a-set with an airbrush?

Solvaset is hot. I usually apply just a drop of it after I have set the decal with another solution and then leave it alone until it's dry.

I too noticed about the avatars. Been through this before. Has the platform that supports SSM been changed? I notice the PHPBB logo at the top now.

Please don't go to Tapatalk. It ruined Atomic City.

Try spray painting lightly clear plastic. Then it will be like a gel.

I also spray painted LEDs to get a more uniform lighting.

I never made he Seaview but I can imaging your situation since I have been in similar situations. First off go slow. Think each step through. Several times what I imagined doesn't work out because I couldn't get the right grip or right positioning that I thought I could to do what I needed. Is it po...

One possibility if the lights would be too high above the loop to work is to place them in the feet, landing gear, and then feed the light using fiber optics to where they are needed.

Re: Sealing photo-etch

For the shuttle bay you will first have to bend it to shape, glue it and then paint it. I don't know anything about the decals, are they insignias, instrument panels meant for details? I would seal them with Dul-cote after applying them. This should keep them in place. Will this keep them place? Yes...

Re: Wire breakage at solder joints

What size are the wires? Are they super fine 60 gauge, if so then replacing them may be difficult. For most modeling applications I would recommend 28 to 30 gauge. If you are serious about this then unsolder the wires, trim them back and resolder them. Otherwise secure them with epoxy to prevent bre...

Re: Wire breakage at solder joints

This is a common problem that affects electronics everywhere, wires flexing and breaking from vibration. I made my own lighting for my K'tinga battle ship and I made sure of two things. One was that I had a good, solid solder connection. The other was that I had strain relief on all the wires. I put...

I have used Tamiya white lacquer primer for my Proteus sub and gray for my K'ting warship. In both cases I wanted a base that hopefully wouldn't lift up with masking. I felt that a lacquer primer would "bite" into the plastic better that enamel or acrylic. Normally I am wary of rattle can ...

It looks like you want an even glow without bright spots. This means you will need a diffuser in addition to the lighting. This could be difficult to achieve.

Just experiment to see what works best.

Re: Where did Starship "Aztecing" come from !?

With the increased detail and visual panorama of the movie screen the producers decided that the flat, featureless hull used for the lo-res 60's TV screens wouldn't work. So they decided to add variation in surface colors and plating to catch the eye. the In real life there are certain variations in...

For the interior, paint it black while holding it up to bright light. When the light is completely blocked then you have enough paint. Any black modeling paint is fine. I wish I knew about the Scalecoat. Several years ago I had to strip some chrome parts and I used the old standby Brake fluid. I had to soak the parts for over a week and then had to dig off pieces with a stiff brush and toothpick.
