On topic in a weak way...ROBOTS!

Sorry if this is off topic, but it is the heart of scifi (robots) and would probably be best suited in the electronics section...so, anyone here mess with beam bots/bugs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BEAM_robotics I'm super slow and just found this not too long ago and it's a really neat deal. Just ...

Haven't found good source for Alclad or even the Testors Metalizer. It's weird around here with hobby supplies...very similar to an outlet mall were inventory is just random and disturbing. Might try the Testors enamel, but enamel makes me nervous. Makes me recall my childhood with big gobby chunks ...

Grrrr...Silver is my new nemesis

Can't find a good silver. Seems that most of the ones I've tried come off very easy (or dull) when I need to handle them during final assembly and most of them HATE any kind of top coat. What is a good metallic silver that I can actually handle long enough to glue into place and seal with out it gra...

Brush Aid?

Have had this brush aid for a while that I picked up in my last SSM order and just have one question....how do you use it? Wash brushes first, soak 'em in it, drink some? :?

Fun Project: Underworld UV clip...ideas?

I like Underworld..sue me. :P I found these images at a prop site of the film used lighted clip: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/bob242/underworlduv2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/bob242/underworlduv.jpg It seems simple enough. A desert eagle clip with cut casings and blue resin(...

Thanks Mark and Modelguy! Based on materials on hand, I will go with Modelguy's suggestion at the moment. Mark, that sounds pretty good and I like the results. Chances are one of my nephews will see the knife and want one (sci-fi hippy kids these days with their Herbert :P ), so I may try that techn...

Good bone paint?

Finally broke down and got a Crysknife, but it was already painted by a blind monkey (on break). I stripped it and plan to brush paint the sucker using good old fashioned wet washes and dry brushing. Problem is I don't have any colors close to ivory/bone and doesn't look like I'll get a chance to pi...

1/6 if I had to take a guess. Pretty decent size and weathering will be fun! Can't be very clean on Dune.

Clear colors and effects

I'm working on a figure model of Paul Atriedes of "Blue Velvet" fame (or "Showgirls" if you prefer since it's the most scifi thing I've ever seen) and want to do the "spice eyes" effect on him. I've never worked with clear paints before and wondered how well you think t...

Pain in the butt, they are. Does this reflect on the caster or is it just something unavoidable? We're talking about 75+ on a 14" piece.

What causes resin "beads"?

Not sure of the term, but I just got a model that has little balls all along the edges of the detail. They don't really feel attached in most cases as they just pop right off. Curious as to what causes this. :?:

I know there are some available for cars. You might ask at the FSM forum. You can also look online for images, save them on the computer, scale them to the right size, and print them on photo paper. Then just punch them out. "Dur." she cried. Didn't even think about that. Holiday brain fa...

Good source for generic instrument panels?

Anyone know of a kit or website that has good generic instrument panels, gauges, etc.? Not really a need to be accurate, but to fill those holes and make the inside look busier. I'm working on a BTTF Delorean for my nephew and find the lack of interior bells and whistles disturbing. Any suggestions ...

Someone once told me to cut dowels at an angle and glue a bit of sandpaper to the end of the dowels. That way you have a handle to work with. Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds solid. Can't imagine it working for a large section without having quite a few dowels ready to go, but if it's just a few ...

](*,) I went and royally messed up my Viper. I'd like a clean start and from what I've read on here I should use oven cleaner to have a fresh start, no?

I realize the post above stated brake parts cleaner, but would the oven cleaner have the same effect?
