Well, I guess I'll kick this thing off by asking if anyone knows of an online tutorial concerning the creation of your own decals? Best software to create them in, papers available, methods of application.

Questions about fiberglass (hollow part construction)

I have had some folks recommend to me that when building a large model, to try and cast it using fiberglass and cloth to make the model lighter. I know (in a VERY basic sense) about the process but was wanting to know if anyone knew of a book or online tutorial out there that I can read or study bef...

Ter-or is correct. But I understand where you are coming from... One and probably IMHO, the most important things to remember ,are to apply little pressure when sanding with motorized tools and to keep the sander MOVING. Do not allow it to rest in one spot for long if at all to keep from cutting a d...

Paul- I went to the site you taked about. They are using stereolithography to produce anything from a cad or 3d rendering. It is really awesome tehnology! As a rule it is a bit on the pricy side to have parts manufactured this way. I am going to try to contact my local university (engineering dept) ...

Blueprints available online

Does anyone know fi most of the plans available online are created in an autocad type format? If they are, they could be scaled to the proper size and parts could be cut from either the file or printed sheet. I am doing my first scratchbuild project of the USS Excelsior at 1/350th scale and I am try...

thanks for the ideas! I will look into the circle cutter, I don't have one yet. As far as the bridge/impulse deck, I had the same idea as you gave. I know the project will be time consuming because I am just starting out but I am looking forward to it.

Scratchbuilding complex shapes

Hello All, I am inspired by all of the truly talented people here at SSM and have learned a great deal by reading and posting in the forums. To this point, I have never scratchbuilt any models. But now I feel like I want to try. I have chosen for a subject, the USS Excelsior. I want to build her in ...

Target had a 2hp compressor on sale last week. It was 75 bucks with a brad nailer and a few accesories. I picked one up. It also had a regulator built on with the auto/pressure switch for when the tank gets full. The regulator that came with it should do...
