Re: Wonderfest 2022 thread

Several of us that participate in Iron Modelers every year we’re discussing last night at the build meeting if there is even going to be an Iron Modelers this year. Seems the communication block is affecting everyone. Wonderfest is such a wonderful event. I hope this isn’t the beginning of a downfa...

Go to the HVAC dept at Lowes or Home Depot-----pick up a roll of aluminum adhesive duct tape 2 inches wide, great adhesive, cuts easily, and very reflective. Works great on my TOS Enterprise. I also burnish it down after it's applied---goes over irregular surfaces well if it burnished. It's about $9...

I can't find Polly Scale around here. Guess I'll have to place an order with Model Expo or Micro Mark. Be careful----the new Pollyscale is MM Acryl. :( Last year I bought every old bottle of Polly S flat that my local store had. As I was paying for it, he said: "Well that's the last of the goo...

Wire Glue?

Okay fellas, what about this stuff:

http://www.wireglue.us/

Snake oil, or a decent substitute for soldering----on simple projects. Not like a 1/350 refit.

Any experience, thoughts? :)

Just picked up some 1000, 1200, and Mr Resin Surfacer at my favorite LHS in Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago. The owner had just received a large order---though he's told me on occasion that it takes forever to get an order sometimes.

Red and blue pigments are notoriously difficult to remove from brushes, one of the old-time recommendations if you're going to paint a lot of reds or blues is to use a separate brush for each color family. Ken Amen to that----I just learned the hard way with Insignia Blue Acryl. Ended up doing a co...

Aw George - you sent him to the hardware store? I've found a larger Ace or True Value has a better selection of fittings and bolts, though. N2 at .18ppm O2 purity. minus 80f dewpoint on final product.

Matter of fact here's that link:

http://www.flex-i-file.com/html/adhesives.html

Also, about half way down you'll see the stand I was talking about----it's called the Fill n Clean. Heavy base to hold your glue, and it won't tip over. If you're as clumsy as I am, I recommend it.

If I can find it, I also have a stand with an applicator bottle that the needle fits into.(vertically, of course)
Should the tip clog, I place it in the bottle and let it soak so the styrene residue melts away.

If I can find that link to that stand, I'll post back. :)

When working with styrene, I swear by Pro-Weld. Like Bob says---it's a little hotter, but it fuses styrene and sets up waaaaay quicker than tube cement.
