Re: removing electrolplate from parts
Castrol Super Clean automotive degreaser is what I used. But Castrol divested and I think it's just called SuperClean now. Reportedly, the formula is not the same. CSC was pretty caustic stuff. (it will eat almuminum, but will not damage styrene) CSC was the only thing that could take chrome *and* t...

Re: Burnishing Chrome foil
I don't like Bare Metal Foil for large applications. It's fine if you're doing say, a N1 starfighter, or chrome trim on a car model. But once you wrap an entire model with foil- it looks like a model wrapped in foil. I wish Alclad II wasn't so damn noxious. (Lacquer) but that's what I'm planning wit...

Linda (still my wife 25 years on) CultTVMan started on AOL. That's where I found him - and Scott VanAken at Modeling Madness as well. Don Matthys (of blessed memory) was on one of the "free" platforms then - I bought my first resin piece from him in 1997, a tinted resin deflect...

Still have the old Pactra International colors in my stash. (1980s) Haven't cracked them open, but the carriers are still liquid, so some of the pigments may have settled. If I ever get back on a Japanese WW2 A/C kick, I'll find out. Even if the pigment has settled to the bottom of the jar and its a...

Re: Airbrushing in high humidity?
What size tank do you have, and how much does it cost to fill it? Also, how heavy is it, especially when filled? I use a 20lb cylinder (Aluminun, weighs 50lbs filled). And I'm still on my last fill (12+ years ago) Well, that is impressive. I've been on a building dry spell for several years because...

CO2 cylinders as your air-supply? CO2 is totally dry. So is N2. (noiseless is a bonus)
The cost is roughly the same as an entry-level hobby compressor.

I've never understood guys that drill/open aerosol cans when it's so much easier to use a bendy straw and a good Boston Round glass bottle.naoto wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 6:44 pm somewhat drastic method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeyTsTcMUhk

I've purchased Model Master Acryl - Gloss Clear, and Pledge: Revive It - Floor Gloss. Which one should I use? My limitation is that I do not have an airbrush. I've only used Future (Pledge Revive) as a gloss coat for all my builds. It can be handbrushed, but slowly build layers- don't slop it on. D...

Castrol Super Clean. Not as smelly as Easy-Off, but you still should use ventilation. And gloves. CSC will dry out your hands unprotected. CSC was the only stripper I used that made a dent on Tamiya chrome plating. (Motorcycle kits, 1/48 MiG-15) Stripped both the plating and the yellow lacquer unde...

Re: Draining a spray can?
I've used plastic bendy straws and glass Boston Round bottles to drain aerosol cans. I cap the bottle with Press and Seal wrap- make a big hole for the straw, and a few tiny holes for gas venting (keeps the potential mess down) I then leave them capped (but not sealed) so they can outgas for several...

TBH, I think the "glowing" nature of these paints, even under UV/Black Light is overblown.

Re: Basics. Weathering. Washes
If you want to do panel lines crevices and detail work, you need a gloss finish to wash over. (easier to remove the excess) If you want to "stain" panels, you do it on a flat finish. But Zombe is saying not to use Acrylics for washes and I agree with him.

Re: Gloss & Dull coats
any metallic paint (Testors, Alclad, Tamiya) will lay down smoother than flat paint. You can skip the Future coat as decal prep on NMF.
But I would trim the decal as close as I can eliminate carrier film.. And knock it down with Solvaset.

Re: Gloss & Dull coats
Clearcoats and Natural Metal Finishes usually aren't a good idea. You could get away with it, But testing on a piece of scrap plastic would be advisable. But I would mask the metallic parts prior to your overcoating the rest of the model. (low tack material so you won't damage the NMF, like post it ...
