Although I get decent results (usually) from acrylics, I still have a deep distrust of acrylic as a medium and prefer enamels even though acrylics make for an easier clean up. I prefer Tamiya brand but also use Hannants own brand colours for specific FS colour matches. Both work best with Tamiya thi...

I like the Welcome to Mars design by Peter Ellison. Its been years since I saw it in an art book and thought then that it deserved being built - even a kit released although I was certain that would never happen.

Not tried painting these yet, but a trick to painting the flexible polythene figures (Airfix, Revell etc) is to: 1. Was thoroughly in detergent and rinse 2. Mix some white glue (Elmers or Evostick) with water so its a milky consistancy. Paint onto the figure. As it dries it shrinks rto a felexible s...

Agreed. Get both. A pin vice isn't a huge investment and is a useful tool for projects requiring a more delicate touch. A dremel may cost more but is versitile and can used for more than drilling. But as the warnings say, its easy to end up melting what you are working on even if set to a slow speed...

This comes up as a topic quite often in paper modelling forums.

Its certainly possible to print the paper parts and use as a template for a styrene model.

The real trick would be to print the coloured parts to styrene and assemble a full colour mode

Another way - assuming you want accenuate lines - is to use the Gundam fine point markers. Just draw within the panel lines and clean any overspil with a wipe of alcohol on a q-tip.

Personal choice? I do an internal undercoat of black to serve as a light barrier and prevent bleed through. Then I will use either silver or a gloss white as the internal reflective coat. I've also tried putting silver foil burnished onto the inside of small models. I'm sure there are a whole host o...

Water does work pretty well and if the mix is thinned OK it doesn't take that long to dry.

That said I tend to use either commercial isopropyl alcohol or Tamiya brand acrylic thinner and fall back on water if I'm out of alcohol.

Not noticed any significant difference in performance.

Two issues here 1. You should be able to shoot it through an airbrush without thinning 2. It can be thinned with water and cleaned off with Isopropyl alcohol. I try to avoid the paint first build later approach if I can. Not only (as stated) is it likley you will need to sand off some of the paint to get a decent joint, fill gaps etc, there is a risk that the glue will dissolve the paint and you get runs. The paint can get scuffed and dirty from handling....

Assuming you have decided on the actual base itself, whether it is a wood base, painted block of resin or whatever, then the choice of stand is - as stated - pretty much a matter of subjective preference (and, of course, price). There are factors that will influence a decision such as the weight of ...

There are some labels that you can't remove. There is an increasing tendency when using clear food packging - bulk ice cream tubs for example for the label to be printed on a clear plastic sheet.
