I'll have to experiment with all this. Sounds like any of them might work for what I want to do. Thanks guys.

Thanks, nothing I read said about doing it before it dried, but it makes total sense. That's a key piece of information.

Cracked Paint? How to do...

I've been wanting to do a garage dio with painted weathered walls. I know that mixing two different types of paint, one over the other, can result is cracks and peeling, but I don't remember what the types were. I'm sure I can search it on the internet, but I was wondering if anyone here has tried t...

I think if the resistor is large enough to handle all the LED's you can get away with one. I wired 5 LED's with one resistor to light the fiber optics in a Wall Map of the places I've been in the world. It's ran pretty much constantly since late 2004 early 2005 and each optic is as bright today as t...

I remember those lights, start at the end with a new bulb, and if that didn't work, remove the next one and put back in the first one you took out and just keep moving the bulbs up the line until there was light. Thankfully, I don't ever recall a time when it didn't work. They wouldn't dare burn out...

So going by the problems demonstrated here and then explained by tetsujin, is it better to just always run LEDs in parallel? Is there a scenario in model building when series is better? I perfer to run paraellel so if one fails (rare, but happens), you don't lose all of them. As for the op, other t...

Is the battery getting hot while the LEDs are lit? If you have a multimeter, check for a short in the switch when its in the off position. If the battery is only getting hot when the switch is off, it sounds like a dead short is happening in the switchs off position. I learned about dead shorts when...

Has anyone here used Lightsheets to light the inside of the Galatica landing bays? If so, is it possible to cut one sheet in such a way as to light both bays or do you have to light each bay separately? If it's the latter, do you need another power supply? I'm talking the old Battlestar, not the new...

Custom Star Trek model Decals

I hope this is the right forum. I'm trying to find out if anyone still makes custom ship decals for the Star Trek Models. I have a name and number I'd like to get decals for to rename my TWOK Reliant ship. I know there used to be folk who made them, but I'm not finding any in my searches. And I know...

I like all the lighting and detail. Did the kit come with the open shuttlebay? And do you remember what LEDs you used for the blinking lights? Were they self blinking or did you have an IC set up? The blinking lights are run by the trek modeler kit, which includes all the blinkers and strobes, and ...

Is it possible the blue tac itself contributed to it or maybe a combination of the blue tac, heat from the drilling and resin residue? I assume you've used blu tac before to hold parts in place, but how long was it on the part?

...Also, since the IL's waste so much energy putting out heat, any battery driven light system will last a much shorter time running IL's instead of LED's Given all that - using IL lighting instead of LED is a move that I definitely would not recommend Good point about the battery life. I rigged my...

Don't rule out fiber optics either. They're great for running lights to narrow places and only take up the space of one wire. I used fiber optics to light my world map with the places I've traveled. I used 3 or 5MM LEDs and a drinking straw to bundle the optics together. It's been lit for going on 6...

Almost sounds like the battery has a direct short somewhere. Had a dogtag chain in my pocket once with a 9V and it shorted across the terminal. Didn't notice it until my leg started getting hot. Do the lights work alright? Another possibility might be it's trying to provide to much power at once. Ne...

 Bummer, is it possible that while you were drilling, you hit a pocket of resin that hadn't fully cured and maybe the fumes found their way to the inside of the canopy? It is fogged from the inside isn't it? I know I've drilled into a thick section of resin before and had liquid residue escape ...

I've run LED's off AC adapters as well with no noticable problems, but it was for a short duration. It probably is still a good idea to use a resistor. But now my curiosity is up so maybe I'll do some experimenting... in a Fire Proof Location :D

I modified my B-9 LIS robot with LEDs (in parallel) and 2 AA batteries, and it lasted several days. One of the LED's flashed and while it wasn't very bright, it flashed for over a year from the same batteries. I didn't use a resistor either and it didn't overheat the LEDs. However, it most likely sh...
