Man, I had no idea hlj even carried that thing. Very interesting. I'm actually thinking of making a box outta some plastic bins and sundry parts like a few I've seen on this board. I'm kinda on a budget, so a cheap DIY deal seems ideal at the moment. I did that. I used a big plastic bin, cut a squa...

The "craft paints" at Michaels and Hobby Lobby are available in a huge range of colors and are perfectly suitable for models. My Klingon D7 was painted with them, http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m72/fireballmodels/Forums/D7/PC172314resized.jpg as was my Jedi interceptor http://www.star...

The Frugal Airbrusher

Okay, I know I've seen this subject brought up before but I cannot seem to find the thread. So, here goes; is there a cheaper alternative to the standard model paints we all have used (Testors, Tamiya, etc)? I'm thinking there has to be some sort of cheaper alternative to model paints which tend to ...

Hola. Thought I'd pop back in to mention this: I've found an easy alternative solution to the EnviroTex/Alumilite problem. It was one of those "why didn't I think of that waaaay back then" head slapper things (I'll bet it's occured to others before me). Give the inside of the mold a coat ...

Superclean is what you need. I don't know if its available in the Netherlands, but it won't attack the plastic and works wonders (be sure and use gloves).

Hard, hallow sphere source for base?

Does anyone know where I could find a suitable hallow sphere that I could cut in half and use for a base? I've looked around at Michaels' but didn't see anything close.

Lil' motor question

here's a question for those in the know: If I take those lil' electric motors that you find in all sorts of things, and increase the power input from the standard 2 AA bateries to something like 3 AA or 4 AA (making the motor spin faster) will I drastically decrease the life of the motors? What if I...

Re: Where can I find a motor for the TOS Enterprise Engines?

I need a DC motor that spins slowly enough to rotate a fan for the engines of the Original Starship Enterprise. Is there a place on the 'net where I can find one? Or would a local electronics store have those types of motors? I'm currently doing the exact thing with the 22' cutaway. My method uses ...

I just got some MEK and tried the recipe contained in that link. however, it hasn't done anything to the plastic forks it cut up and put in the jar with the MEK (and thev'e been in there for about 18 hours or so).

Has anyone else had this problem? How long does it take (the link says overnight)?

Cheap Alternative to Modeler's Putty?

Anyone know of an alternative to the 3-dollar-a-small-tube standard modeler's putty? I've used plummer's epoxy for the heavy duty stuff, but does anyone know of an alternative that works most like modeler's putty but isn't ridiculously marked up like, say squardon or testor's putty?

thanks

thinning acrylic paint

Does anyone know the best types of thinner for the following acrylic paint?:

Testors Model Masters
Tamiya
Pactra Racing Finish

I hate to pay through the nose for their suggested thinner unless there's something cheaper and just as good out there.

I forget, what's the rule on acrylics mixing with enamels (dried, not liquid) and vice versa? I've really only ever used enamels for all these years.

What's in the Future for mankind?

I hate to sound like a newbie (to these boards anyways), but what is Future and why is it a good and/or widely used product? What's it do? How should one use it? Where can one find it?
