Iron Modeler entry looking for it's creator

Paula and I picked up our team's entry.
We also picked us the entry for Two Guys and a Broad.
Both safely made it home and if Two Guys and a Broad would like their entry we will pack and ship it to them.
Just send me a private message and we can arrange shipping.

Thanks.

Re: Iron Modeler at Wonderfest - It's ON!

BGuy,

No problem, if you check my first post in this topic I already have a big bag of parts for the "entry fee".
Also I am driving so bringing them is no issue.
I might still take you up on the drink :D

Starting to pack, getting excited.

See you (sort of) soon.

Re: Iron Modeler at Wonderfest - It's ON!

BGuy, As far as I know there are no restrictions on forming teams. Since you and I are both looking to participate and a minimum teams is is 2, Looks like we have a team if that is OK with you. If you are OK with it I will sign up the team with the name Starfury Pilots. If you have a better idea for...

Any teams looking for a member? For those who don't recognize the "handle" I have been on the board for a while and have attended several Iron Modelers. One team I was on won Best Use of Greeblies in 2012. I have the "entry fee" ready to bring with me. Just reply or PM me. I trie...

Re: Reducing LED Brightness?

LEDs are not linear devices, they do not act like resistors e.g if you drop the voltage 10% the current does not drop by 10%. The LED needs 3.3 volts and before current starts to flow and an additional component is needed to limit the current to 20 ma. So if you want to use 3 - 1.5v batteries (4.5 v...

The red LEDs have a different voltage and current requirements. Based on what I could find the red LEDs should be brighter then the blue and white, so I must have missed something. Could you list the specs, voltage and current of the red, blue and white LEDs? Are the red LEDs brighter at the LED and...

It is entirely possible the wall wort was not supplying clean power.
This could have caused damage to other components.
That might explain why the 555s keep frying.

I think I understand the question. I am working on a similar circuit myself. If I understand correctly, you need to determine the frequency and the duty cycle. Using Kylwell's input as a standard if you set the frequency to 80 htz (72 + 10% approx.) as you reduce the duty cycle to give the impressio...

John, Can you define "too slow". IIRC anything over 15 cycles per second is going to have issues. If you are running slower than that it could be a duty cycle issue. If the LED is on over 50% of the time there will also be and issue. Any details .e.g. the basic circuit (555 or PIC) would a...

I have picked my sheets up at model railroad shops. The RR hobbyists use it for billboards, street signs, and building lights.

Great stuff.

I have never been able to successfully make new connections to a sheet.
That isn't to say it can't be done.

As a last resort, find a smooth wire smaller that you want the hose e.g. 12 or 14 ga. house wiring. Wrap the outside with smaller wire e.g. 18 or 20 ga. couple drops of super glue along the way, quick paint job and viola.

Just a suggestion, and not the best one but it should work. I assume you are using pins 1 - 7 , 9, 11 and 12 as the count pins. Cascade "OR" gates and an inverter so the output goes true when all outputs are low (0) and use that signal to drive the 11th LED. Bit of a pain and there is a wa...

According to the national standards 28 ga. is good for 1.4 amps (1400 mils) 30 LEDs should draw around 600 mils, "room to spare". If you are using a wall wart check if it can supply that much current.

Are you really planning t install 500 leds in one model? At 20 mils each thats 10 amps. 20 guage would be needed to handle the load. That also means you need to vent the heat created by 50 watts of power. Check your power supply also, a wall wart isn't going to handle that kind of load. If you are o...

If it is a straight edge I vote with the score and snap method.
But score deeply and snap it over a sharp edge or place the score over a large dowel e.g. broom handle and press gently, work your way along the "break".
