Re: Iwata NEO and Lacquers

That's the key--just clean it well afterward, and don't soak it. You'll be fine.

Re: WE HAVE MOVED

Back-up is so easy Tell me about it. I was using their automated tools this last week to get DB snapshots, at least when the DB was up enough I could. Last one I had from their tools was Thursday. I'm kinda a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy when it comes to data, so I used the boards tools to make ...

Re: Thank goodness you're back...

The ISP crashed. Not much we can do about it but move the site to somewhere a little more reliable. And the wheels are turning on that as well.

Re: Questions? I Got Your Questions Right Here, Buddy.

Spam is a problem after this upgrade--the Captchas have all been broken. I changed it to a Q&A, I'm hoping this helps a bit. There's a lot of spam controls we can enable with this new software, it's just going to take some time to go through them all and find the combo that'll give us the bigges...

Comic style color scheme help.

So I'm going to try and paint a mech in a comic book style scheme. You know, the one that makes a 3D model look 2D. Something like this: http://kotaku.com/i-cant-believe-this-isnt-a-manga-drawing-1702763727 . Anyway, I'm not skilled enough to do it to this level, but I want to see what I can do. So ...

Re: Questions? I Got Your Questions Right Here, Buddy.

I think the previous settings had external links opening a new tab, now links leave the board I guess I'll have to remember to right click "Open in a new tab" I think they always did that for me--I got in the habit of binding my middle mouse button to "open in new tab", and use ...

The things to worry about aren't necessarily the paints, but the solvents (thinners and cleaners) that you'll be spraying....at least wear a mask. A booth isn't very expensive, and really, aren't your lungs worth it? (Oh, and personally, I wouldn't vent to the dryer either...I wouldn't want the part...

I've only heard anecdotal evidence of a spray booth explosion with hobby paints--one story that I haven't been able to verify. I's not out of the realm of impossibility, although I think it's pretty low. That said, I bought myself a booth that has a squirrel cage fan on it, so the motor is not in th...

There's odor free CA, a bit pricey, but it works if you are sensitive.

Another vote for the Micro Weld though--my daughter uses it. The longer working time is a bonus for her, although it also means more time to get a fingerprint put in.

And just about any sealer will dull chrome. Chrome reflects based on the light hitting it, and reflecting almost perfectly to the eye. Adding a sealer interrupts the light path (slightly, but that *will* dull it).

Make sure the model's clean of mold release too--Mr. Resin seems to have something in it that cuts through some mold release.

And either Duplicolor, Plastikote, etc works for Resin.

Alternative? Yes. Replacement? No. Mr. Resin Primer as you've noticed is amazing stuff...but it is expensive. And in my opinion, worth every penny. I've had pretty good luck with Krylon and Duplicolor for smooth areas, but where there's detail, I pull out the Mr. Surfacer products. Others report bet...

Caplugs. Save or toss?

I've picked up various bottled paints (Kitbuilder's, Badger, Golden, Com-Art, etc) over the years. Most of them have red plugs in the bottles that have to be removed (kind of like a reusable safety seal). I've been throwing them away, but I suddenly wondered if that was the thing to do, or should I ...

Probably depends on what you are using to wash it. IIRC testors putty is basically red Bondo spot putty. Lacquer based. Should be ok against anything but the really nasty stuff.

If you are wanting to play it safe, use Comet (or some other semi-harsh cleanser) and a toothbrush.
