Re: Re:Purging and Deletion of Topics/Threads

Hey Rayra - how often do you personally handle the backups on that message board? How big is the database backup and how long does it take to run the backup and then copy it down to your home system? How about the upload and restore when you test that? There are actually some good reasons for keepin...

Are they stuck in your outbox? Some forum software won't mark a PM as delivered until the recipient has read it.

Re: Forum Moderation

Just in case it isn't apparent since my last post may have come across as a bit cranky and critical - your efforts here are greatly appreciated. It's a good reason why I've ordered through the store several times.

Re: Forum Moderation

It's a major PITA for admins *snip* The fact that this is a popular forum with thousands of active members means we are a perpetual target. That's the reality. I realize that there may be few people on the forum that you truly know and trust, but as systems get more used there's an increasing need ...

Re: Forum Moderation

Maybe I'm imagining things which aren't likely, but how long until they go from spam to data theft? All of these posts are bot driven - pure program with no human interaction. Data theft these days is generally the same unless you are a high-value target (or work for one) in which case it warrants ...

I've helped moderate forums in the past and would volunteer here. As it is I need to remember to not try and come here during work now because of the images they're embedding.

Re: Switching windows between 2 light colors

You could get smart, addressable LEDs like the Adafruit Neopixels . While you'd only need one set of fiber per window you'd need a microcontroller of some sort to manage the switching. You might be able to get away with a regular RGB LED but I'm not sure what values you'd need to pump through to get...

It would cost more but something like this could cut down on the number of LEDs depending on spacing of the lights.

12mm x 12mm Arduino planned. It won't be the cheapest, but frell is that small for a microprocessor board.

Re: WE HAVE MOVED

I frequently worry about the current state of IT -- with the increasing amounts of data involved, you'd think it would be reasonable make sure your IT staff is better trained than before. Unfortunately, most management sees IT and support as an expense and not an investment. I work as an outsourced...

$7 is expensive? How about less that $2? $3 with wireless?

I don't use the Chinese clones myself but some people seem OK with them.

There's also Madman Lighting or rolling your own with a microprossessor like an Arduino.

That just means your email has recognized onezero@starshipmodeler.net as John Lester or that John changed his email settings here.
Bolded text is the correct answer. My email doesn't connect the dots and I've set it up to be extremely literal and only report what people send.

email notifications of topic replies are coming from the friendly name of John Lester instead of the previous OneZero. Not a complaint, just a comment in case that wasn't the intention.

Upper right-hand corner of the screen there should be a "private messages" link underneath the search field.

Re: LED Filaments

Well bear in mind these things don't truly emit a 360 degree arc of light anyway. Which I think would be acceptable for light sabers in most cases. If it's upright, face the darker side towards the figure as most people won't be able to look through the painted plastic. If it's pointed forward, poi...

I like the way you think! First obstacle I see to that is the return circuit. How would you complete the circuit without a noticeable line through the light? Is there any sort of conductive clear coat?

Most people here think I'm some sort of genius because I can buy computer components and put together my own desktop computer. Depending on what you want to do and "type" of comfort with building things, something like an Arduino might also be an option. I would say it's overkill for just a blinkin...
