I own both, and I use the Grex all of the time and haven't used the Iwata in a couple of years.

I know a lot of great modelers that use the Iwata and some that use Badgers, etc. They are both great brushes. If you can, try both of them to find which one you are more comfortable with.

I've had alot of success thinning Tamiya paint with a 50/50 ratio. The Tamiya thinners work great, as will lacquer thinner. I really like using Mr. Color 400 Leveling Thinner. It's a little more expensive, but I've had great results.

I have a Badger Patriot I never use. I was thinking about selling it recently, and when I pulled it of the box and dropped it and the needle tip bent. (Yes, the tip sticks out that far. Which also prevents you from back flushing to clean it without stabbing yourself.) I checked with the 2 hobby stor...

You could also try using Parafilm to mask it. It's very thin and flexible and can be wrapped around the area. I find it works pretty well on irregularly shaped areas.
