Glue for SMDs

Has anybody had any luck with glueing SMD LEDs to plastic? I've tried several types of glue and none of them seem to hold. Might resort to a dab of hot glue.

So is the advantage of the lacquer that it won't yellow?

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions. I e-mailed Testor's and they told me that their enamel-based semi gloss clear (FS-3) is still available and that is what they suggest I use to be safe. They have an on-line store that you can order from if you can't get it any other way.

semi gloss laquer over enamel?

Anybody know if it's safe to use Testor's semi gloss clear lacquer over their model master enamels? I'd doing a 1/350 PL refit (with aztec decals) and the detail painting is all enamels. I'd like to cover all the dedals with a semi-gloss but I don't want to screw up the detailng. I've been told that...

cleaning parts before priming

I'm building a 1/350 Polar Lights refit. I have some of the sub assemblies done, but they are full of finger prints, tape residue, etc. What can I safely use to clean the parts before painting them? I did wash the parts before assemby, but obviously can't soak them in water again since there are ele...

external light blocking

If you are lighting a kit and have parts of it assembled and have small light leaks, how do you take care of them? What color paint works best, and should it be brushed on or sprayed? Do you need to worry about what type of paint to use if primer (Tamiya fine) and color coats are yet to be applied?

miniature connectors

Can anyone recommend a place where I can get some small connectors to use in a 1/350 PL refit? I would like them to have 4 to 6 positions and I plan to use them for connecting different sub-assembys together, such as the nacelles to the secondary hull and the saucer lighting the the secondary hull, ...

Go to youtube and type in helipilot27. Then view his 10 or so build videos - a wealth of information there. Also check this out: http://www.therpf.com/f11/jeffs-1-350-refit-enterprise-97477/ Another good source of build information can be found right where you are now - look for the 1/350 WIP thread...

If you have the colors as indicated in your message for the 3 resistors, they are correct. Must be something else. I'd be thinking about another board anyway, because the one you have will never fit if you're putting it under the hanger bay. There are smaller boards available for around $10 with 10 ...

That board looks kind of long - did you test fit it under the "runway" of the hanger bay? I'm working on doing the same thing, and I found some 0.5 mm fiber optic cable that bends much easier than larger diameter stuff. Also, drill the holes for the fiber to go through at an angle, especia...

I agree that Doomgiver's setup is great. I tried the heat shrink approach, and either the FO pulled out when the fiber was bent or the hair dryer melted the fiber and caused it to curl. That's why I'm looking for another approach to this. I also like the way Doomgiver mounted his board on the bottom...

1/350 refit shuttle bay landing light question

This question is for anybody that installed an LED chaser circuit under the shuttle bay for landing lights. My question is how did you attach the FO to the LEDs? I saw a you-tube video that Helipilot27 did, and it looks like he had some type of cap on the top of the LEDs to hold the FO. I tried smal...

Glue for LEDs

Can anybody suggest a good glue to use for holding LEDs in place. I plan on using low temp hot glue for LEDs that just need to be held in place on top of a surface, like inside an Enterprise saucer, let's say. What I need to know is what to use for ones that fit throgh a small hole that's split, lik...

LED "Strobe" lights

This is in reference to the Trekmodeler type light kits. There are two types of white LEDs used, and one is called strobe. What, if anything, is special about these LEDs?
