I recently purchased some Plexiglas for Home Depot. I have never used this material before. Does anyone have any tips....glue, can you glue styrene details to Plexiglas....etc.

I'm thinking I would make a good sturdy box hull.

I saw in a Hobby Japan along time ago, someone glued a thin strip of plastic to a pin and then sanded the glued strip till the fatter pin fit into the socket.

I use the needle method and Proweld. I find using the largest needle in a mult pack to work the best. I've never used the needle for CA. For that, I use a cheap mechanical pencil. I've done this before: wrap .1 mm around a brass tube, hold in place with tape and immerse this into boiling water for a couple of seconds. The drop the rod into a sink of cold water to stiffen the plastic.

I think I'll try the roll out the aves tonight. That would also fill in the multiple depressions. Thank you everyone for the input, appreciate the assistance.

I guess I could skin with multiple layers of styrene over the core. And add detail on top of that. How would rolling I roll Aves? I've only used Aves to make small sculpted pieces. I did order the large 4 Lbs a couple of months ago. It's really kinda of a smashed half tube. I am using a 1" x 12...

Quick question: I have a ship hull its profile is half of a tube about 10 inches long and 3 inch in diameter. It has no detail on its surface. Does anyone think the heat and smash technique would work?

simple question: what is a good source, if any, of 1 inch styrene tubing? I can find other material but, not styrene. Any help would be appreciated.

get a bunch of alligator clips from radio shack, push wooden skewers into the wire side and crimp the end. You can pick up a block of Styrofoam from the local art store and stick in the unclipped side. Total cost about $3.00 -$4.00.

I got a whole mess of them, they are practically disposable.

How do you thin the Aves to spread? I have some but it is more like clay...I use to fill gaps and on my current (Hyperion B-5), I'll use to make gun turrets, by carving.

I've never tried Aves that way. The Bondo does eat the foam, but it will harden before the foam is disolved; leaving a hard shell. The outer shell is pretty strong, Ihave not had any problems...so far. The big thing is that Bondo is cheap, but there is a lot of waste.

the model remains quite strong. And Bondo is a brand name. Cheak at local DIY centers or auto stores. Walmart, if there, is a good source.

I use bondo to cover stryrofoam. It will set up before desolving foam and leave a hard shell. Try on scrap piece of foam to see. Then I cover with bondo glaze and sand back. Spread the bondo filler in patches for it sets up quickly and don't try to spread once it starts curing...better to wait till ...

I also use only bondo spot and Glaze....it can be found at Walmart in the auto section for about 2.00 per tube and will last for about 5 years; it's alot of putty.

good info. I have the same problem. prime and sand, over and over again and still low spots. man, this gets discouraging.

have good success with bondo. smooth on then sand. fill any bubbles with bondo glaze and spoty.

i really like using bondo, after sanding I go back and use spot and glazing putty. Both are bondo brand. You can get some nice smooth finishes. sand outside it does make a mess. Use outside I used once in the kitchen when wife was out of town....man the fumes.

Darkson: get a sharp knife and run it through a wax candle. you will have to do this every now and then. Also check out the following link.

Hello Dear Readers, I found an a compressor at a local thrift store for $25.00, so I picked it up. It's made by a coumpany called INTERMATIC and it says speedy on it. I've tried googling the company name and all I can find is a lighting company of the same name. Has anyone heard of them (Intrematic)...

Do wheat bulbs generate a lot of heat? Have not lit any models...yet.
