After having spent the last few weeks learning more about electronics, I have discovered that I can wire up the 12v to positive and the 3.3v to the negative (ground) and this will give me a current of 8.7v, which is good 'nuff. And I was already buying parts for my voltage regulator :) Edit: NM it w...

Chris's noobie electronics questions
I am finally beginning my adventures into lighting and I will use this thread to ask the questions that most kids learned in 7th grade shop class. First up: I intend to mod an ATX PSU (another one) so that I can use it to hook up the models for testing. This is because I will be using yet another 12...

Minor update - I modified my first PSU tonight and it worked out great. No explosions and I learned a bit about electronics. The 3 muffin fans I am running off of it pull 1.6A each. The power supply peaks at 18A on the +12v rail. I can't imagine that a lighting kit without any fans or motors pulls m...

Ok guys I didn't realize that people had responded to my thread so I am sorry for not replying sooner. Modifying the PSU is exactly what I am going to do. Thanks! I am also building a spray booth at the moment and came across this exact same problem when figuring out how to power three 1.6 amp 12v m...

Many Deluxe 8 boards, one switch
I'm looking for some input and advice. After I bought the 1:350 refit and lighting kit, I realized I needed to start smaller to gain some experience. I have just received the first of several Deluxe 8 boards I will be buying (thanks STM) and will be learning on a few small models first. They will al...

Indeed there are arrows on the thing, not highlighted or accented so I didn't notice them the first time. However now the regulator wouldn't quite line up level so I gave it one more tweak and the freaking nipple snapped off, half inside the compressor. So I guess I'll be needing an easy out and a n...

Question about my air regulator
I have a Harbor Freight compressor and bought the TCP Global TFR-2000 regulator to go with it. http://www.tcpglobal.com/airbrushdepot/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=ABD+TFR-2000 I did not have any prior knowledge when I bought it. I just knew from this board that I need to regulate the pressure. Unfortunate...

Yes as I am starting to carve out my piece of wood, I am envisioning another skinnier hollow rod coming out the front of it at a 45 and up through the neck, carrying wires to the saucer while also strengthening the neck. I don't see why that won't work, but if it doesn't, I will go with 2 fishing li...

Any structural engineers in the house?
I started to add this to a thread I created in the Star Trek forum but I realize it really belongs here, so I apologize for starting another thread on the same subject. I have come up with a plan to suspend my 1/350 Enterprise but I am hoping for some input from someone with any sort of practical kn...
