I spent around 8 months (1700 hours), creating this special order build for a client. The premise was a 1/350th Enterprise Refit project incorporating several unique features the client desired. Although there are many details and augments, almost too many to fully list, here are the main ones: The client desired a fully detailed and lighted shuttle bay. He was impressed with the DLM version, and although it was the version for the "A", the Bishops of Canon weren't around to complain. He also specified that the build be well detailed with Aztec patterns, and fully lighted with all the strobes and navigation lighting as seen on the big prop sold at Christies lately. He wanted a set of blue high intensity lasers, not red as the Refit had in WOK, but along the lines of the TOS series colors. I found some serious 620 nm output blue Argon type lasers at a very steep price to install into the saucer section. This required me to break down the units, and make them adaptable for an install within the confines of that section. One of my ideas he liked very much and was added was a "twinkling" water effect in the Arboretum that can be seen from the exterior. The view is small, but you can make out that pond in that area if you look closely. The VIP Lounge was also highly detailed, and throughout the populated sections I used 1/350th figures from "L'Arsenal", a modeling parts provider in France. He also wanted functioning "photon torpedoes", and a whole lot more. I had a custom presentation base made, that has a deflector display panel and a lighted commemorative plate (my buddy Glenn at Last Pacific Creations did that). The entire model is mounted on this base and covered by a clear Case Cover. I took images of each and every step of this build in detail, and came up with almost 4,000 photos and quick time film clips. Obviously I can't post them all here, but here's a good smattering of the high points of sub-assemblies, and final results. This project was very costly on my end, and even more costly to the client. But as all the Paramount Star Trek Props have been sold, and it's a CG world now, this is as close as I can get. |
